The School of Business & Aviation at Fairmont State University is committed to becoming the preeminent regional business school of West Virginia and the surrounding region. The business school has been recognized for its quality academic performance and for contributing to the overall progress of the area and broader environment. It is committed to delivering a rigorous business education through effective and efficient instruction in a caring learning environment that responds and adapts to the shared needs of students, organizations, and the community.

Over $1,000,000 has been invested in the School of Business to improve student productivity. The monetary investment was primarily used to instate a Peer Mentoring program, re-design coursework to utilize more active, collaborative, and experiential learning, and renovate campus classrooms to create cutting edge learning environments.

Education

The School of Business & Aviation provides graduate students with programs like the Master of Science in Healthcare Management and the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Undergraduate students will want to take note of the school’s Bachelor of Science Degrees in Accounting, Healthcare Management, Information Systems Management, and Business Administration. Specializations include Management, Finance, Business, and Marketing. Non-Business majors can accentuate their educational paths with a minor in Business.

Student Life

Depending upon a Fairmont State University student’s academic qualifications and objectives, the following student organizations are provided by the university for membership. Delta Mu Delta exists as an international honor society committed to recognizing business administration students who work to distinguish themselves academically and professionally. University faculty members and local business leaders who have experienced remarkable success in their professions are also a vital part of this organization. This group provides students with ample networking opportunities and the chance to glean wisdom and practical instruction from educators and professionals. Delta Mu Delta was established in 1913 by five professors from Yale, Harvard, and New York University. To date, it is the highest national recognition a business student can earn. The Kappa Omicron chapter of Delta Mu Delta at Fairmont State University was founded in May of 2006.

Accounting majors at Fairmont State will want to take note of the Student Accountant Society (SAS). This student organization is for accounting majors and other students interested in the field who desire to interact with like-minded students committed to promoting leadership, character, and scholarship. The Student Accountant Society is dedicated to scheduling opportunities for student development in the genres of continuing education, professional standards, and academic achievement.

Online Programs

There are currently two departments within the School of Business & Aviation that offer online courses. Business Administration and Business Information System Management offer students the chance to take courses through distance learning. The Business Administration course delivered through an online format is called. Business OnBoarding. The Business Information System Management courses include Introduction to Computing, Business Information Tools, Introduction to Networking Administration, Corporate Communications and Technology, Business Programming Logic, Management Information Systems, E-Commerce and Web Development Strategy, and Information Systems Project Management.
